Two towers in Southwark designed by Wilkinson Eyre have been called in by the Secretary of State. The plans for 20 Blackfriars Road will be scrutinised to see if they meet CABE’s guidance on tall buildings. They will also have to convince the Secretary of State that they are suitably sustainable, provide sufficient affordable housing and conform to the GLA’s unitary development plans.

Developer Circleplane plans to build a 23-storey office tower and a 42-storey residential tower on the site. There will also be lower-rise buildings fronting the street. The two towers and surrounding new buildings will feature 300 flats. A section 106 agreement will see investment in local education facilities, healthcare, road improvements and the renovation of Christchurch Gardens.
