Yeoman Shield from Harrison Thompson & Co Ltd has established itself as the market leader in the supply and installation of wall & door protection, with 30 different systems and a wealth of knowledge, expertise and professionalism.

In 1966 the company was born with the sole purpose of introducing extruded PVCu crash rails to the market. Now, over 40 years on, 30+ colours are available from stock in more than 20 different shaped extrusions. All are designed with the primary purpose of preventing damage and saving the need of costly repair and redecoration.

Damage to walls, doors and corners is inevitable in any workplace or public building from high pedestrian footfall, wheeled equipment and beds, supermarket trolleys and industrial trolleys and trucks. Yeoman Shield wall and door protection products are used by many public and corporate buildings to combat this problem.

Hospitals, schools, leisure centres, supermarkets, airports, hotels and offices have all benefited from installing Yeoman Shield to ensure that interiors maintain a professional, smart and clean appearance.

The design led systems are used to protect walls and doors from unsightly dents, scratches and scuffs and are often incorporated as an integral element of internal décor.

A wide range of protection products have been installed as part of a PFI project at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, as a cost effective refurbishment option for damaged walls and doors.

With a catchment population of approx. 500,000 and over 6,000 staff, the hospital is subject to a large amount of pedestrian and wheeled traffic. Addenbrooke’s (in conjunction with support services business, Alfred McAlpine) utilised a wide range of Yeoman Shield wall protection products, including corner protection (for walls and furniture, such as nurse’s stations), bed head protectors (which prevent damage from hospital beds to both walls and wall mounted equipment) and approximately 1500 metres of protection/handrails. Mid grey Yeoman Shield handrails contrast with the white walls to aid visually impaired people and, by providing guidance and support, the handrails also meet the needs of the disabled and people with impaired mobility.

Michael Turner, Facilities Manager at Alfred McAlpine, said: “We were impressed with both the quality of Yeoman Shield’s range and the quick efficient installation service.”

Wall and door protection is also installed to maintain the pristine appearance of new build developments. Yeoman Shield recently rose to the challenge of providing wall protection products for curved walls at the new £10 million Airedale Centre for Mental Health run by Bradford District Care Trust.

The solution came in the form of Yeoman Shield 200mm Protection Strip, the nature of which allowed it to follow the curves of the walls. Supplied in mid grey, the stylish protection system complements the modern design of the interior whilst providing an attractive and functional protection system.

A range of Yeoman Shield protection systems including Protection Rail, Corner Angles, Door and Wall Protection Panels, Door Edge Protectors and Door Kick Plates have been installed at the new state of the art purpose built facility.

Project Designer, Anthony Marjerrison took advantage of Yeoman Shield’s full supply and fix service and, from the original quotation to the final installation; the entire job was completed within just one month.

Also schools are at high risk of damage to walls, doors and corners as they are subject to continual and intense damage.

Heworth Grange School in Gateshead, which has nearly 1400 pupils, opted for Yeoman Shield wall protection when looking for ways to put a stop to further expensive and unsightly damage.

Building Manager, Jim Slack, called in a member of Yeoman Shield’s national sales force for advice and walls in the school’s corridors, classrooms and staircases are now protected by Protection Rail and Wall Protection Panels, which prevent damage at varying heights. Jim said: “We were looking for effective ways to protect our buildings and budgets. Yeoman Shield provided us with the ideal solution and we are delighted with the results.”
